Import and daily updates

Plans Free, Pro, Agency

This page explains what happens to your data after you connect Search Console, and why the newest days can look low.

New sites after you connect. If you add a property in Search Console (or a site in Bing) after connecting, it appears within a day. To add it now, press Refresh site list in Settings → Sites; you don’t need to sign in again.

Upgrading to a Domain property. If a site so far has only URL-prefix properties (like https://example.com/) and you verify its Domain property (example.com) in Search Console, the Domain property joins the same site the next time we list your properties. It imports like any new property (newest 3 months first, then older history), and Search Console already holds its full 16 months, so the site’s dashboard switches to it automatically once it appears, with no gap. Your annotations stay with the site.

The first import

  • When you connect, KeptSEO imports the whole history Google still holds for each site, up to 16 months of web search data. Image, video, news and Discover results are imported right after the web history, so those types fill in a little later (a type a site never had stays empty).
  • It starts straight away, in the background. You do not need to keep the page open.
  • A typical site takes about a minute. Very large sites take longer.
  • On the sites page each site shows Importing, then Ready. The overall trend appears first; the queries and pages tables can fill in slightly later.
  • If a site shows Import failed, choose Connect Search Console again. That restarts the import for sites that failed.
  • Very large sites on Free. The newest 3 months always import straight away. For a very large site (more than about a million rows of history), older months keep importing only while someone in your workspace has signed in within the last 14 days. If nobody has, the site shows Paused: sign in to continue importing. Your dashboards keep working and nothing already imported is removed; sign in and the import carries on within the hour. Pro has no pause for activity.
  • Very large sites (over 50,000 search queries a month) on Free. The newest 3 months import and the site updates daily; older history shows Older history on Pro and imports when the workspace moves to Pro.
  • Over your site slots. Very large sites use 3 site slots; over 250,000 queries a month use 6. We give 7 days’ notice before importing pauses: if a site grows and your workspace goes over its slots, older-history import for the over-limit sites pauses 7 days after the notice (Older history paused: over your slots). Daily updates continue, dashboards keep working and nothing is deleted. It resumes within the hour after you upgrade, add slots or deactivate a site. See Plans and limits.

Daily updates

  • After the import, each site gets one update a day.
  • Google finishes counting a day about 3 days late. Until then the newest days are preliminary: they look lower than they will end up, and the chart draws them hatched. See Preliminary data.
  • The sites page only uses final days, so its 28-day figures end a few days before today. The site dashboard header shows the last final day.

Why we keep it

Google only shows 16 months. Each daily update adds to what KeptSEO already holds, so your history keeps growing past that limit. Free shows the latest 16 months; Pro shows everything stored. See Plans and limits.

If access is lost

If Google stops accepting the connection, for example because you removed KeptSEO’s access in your Google account, the connection shows Needs reconnect in Settings. Choose Reconnect to restore it. See Account and settings.

Disconnecting

Disconnecting Google stops all new imports for the sites that connection can see. Data already saved stays until our 30-day purge, and reconnecting before then brings your sites back.
