Queries and pages table

Plans Free, Pro

The table lists the searches (queries) that brought people to your site, or the pages they landed on. It is the “why” behind the number cards.

Queries or pages. On the Overview tab, use the Queries / Pages switch at the top left. The Queries and Pages tabs show the full table. The count next to the switch says how many rows you have, for example “153 queries”, or “500 of 1,834 queries” when more exist than are loaded.

Columns

  • Query / Page: the name, with a soft bar behind it showing its share of clicks compared with the biggest row on screen.
  • Clicks, Impressions, CTR, Position: the number and, when you are comparing, the change. CTR changes are in percentage points; position changes are places gained or lost. See Metrics.
  • Trend: a tiny line of clicks across your date range, ending in a dot. Each line is scaled to its own highs and lows, so compare shapes, not heights. Up to 45 days it has one point per day; a longer range has one point per week (average clicks per day). It follows your filters and search type and shows for the biggest 100 rows (all 10 on the Overview tables); smaller rows show no line.
  • Brand tag (Pro): a small Brand tag next to a query that matches one of your brand terms. Pages never get one, and Free shows none.
  • Click change: how many clicks the row gained or lost against the comparison. A bar grows to the right (green) for gains and to the left (red) for losses. It only shows when a comparison is on.

Sort. Click a column title to sort by it; click again to reverse. The table starts with the most clicks first. Name and Position start with A to Z and best (lowest) first.

Search. On the Queries and Pages tabs, type in the Search box to find rows. It matches any part of the text and ignores capital letters.

Motion. When you sort or filter, rows slide to their new place (a quarter of a second), and new rows fade in with their bars growing in. With reduced motion switched on in your device, everything changes instantly.

Show more. The Overview table shows 25 rows, with Show more for the next 25. The Queries and Pages tabs show 200 at a time, with Show 200 more and Show all.

Click a row to open it. Click a row (or tab to its name and press Enter) to open the page or query detail. The name is a link, so Ctrl-click, Cmd-click or a middle click opens it in a new tab. To filter the whole site view to that query or page instead, hover the row and press Filter (always visible on touch screens); a chip appears above the numbers. See Site tabs.

Page URLs. Page addresses drop your site’s own address, so you see /blog/resources/how-to-pitch-a-tent/ rather than the full https://www.example.com/.... A page on another subdomain keeps its host (shop.example.com/cart/). Long paths are shortened in the middle, so the last part stays readable (/blog/resources/…/how-to-pitch-a-tent/). Hover a URL to see it in full; copying it copies the full address. The page column takes more of the width than the query column, and Wrap URLs (top right of a pages table, remembered on this device) shows long URLs on up to two lines instead. The same short form is used in page detail headers and breadcrumbs.

Scrolling. On the Queries and Pages tabs the page itself scrolls and the column titles stay pinned at the top of the window (just under the comparison bar when it shows). On narrow screens the table scrolls sideways in its card; scrollbars there are thin and follow the light or dark theme.

Good to know

  • The rows add up to a little less than the total at the top. Google does not tie every click to a query. See Anonymized traffic.
  • The latest days may be incomplete. See Preliminary data.

With two comparison windows, the table’s change columns compare the later window (Focus, B) with the earlier one (Baseline, A), scaled per day if their lengths differ. See Comparison windows.

Plans. The same on Free and Pro, except the Brand tag, which is Pro.

On Free, a table that is cut ends with a locked line such as “+12,400 more queries on Pro — Free shows the top 5,000”; search and filters look within those 5,000.
